Pearl Bridal Jewelry - How to Choose the Best Look to Complete Your Wedding Ensemble

Pearl bridal jewelry is the most popular choice among brides as pearls symbolize purity-and
they make an elegant statement as well.
Because pearls can be found in different lusters and colors you can match them to your wedding colors and theme for a sophisticated flair.
Make the right choice of pearl size, luster quality and necklace length, and you're look
will be perfectly sophisticated, chic and fashionable.
The prices of pearls vary and you can find great pearl bridal jewelry even if you are on a budget.
The price is based on the size of the pearl and the quality. For a high quality pearl jewelry set, you can expect to pay between $100-200.
But you can also find lower quality pearls at more affordable prices that still look great. There are several variations of pearls to choose from.
Saltwater pearls are more round than freshwater pearls which can make them a little more expensive. The three most common types of saltwater pearls are Akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls, and South Sea pearls.
  • Akoya pearls which are a type of saltwater pearl come from the smallest oyster and produce smaller pearls, usually 2-11 mm in diameter.
Because they are also the most consistently round, they're great for matching jewelry sets.
  • Tahitian pearls are larger than other types and they are also known for their natural darker colors. The 'black' pearl is the rarest and most expensive type
    of pearl.
  • South Sea pearls are unique because they are so large. The average size is 13 mm in diameter.
Freshwater pearls are not as round as saltwater pearls and they do not have the same luster. But they can be found in a variety of gorgeous colors and they are not as expensive as saltwater pearls.
Cultured pearls are produced sythetically with the help of man so it's easy to find them in perfectly round spheres.

Choose your pearl size based on your body frame.
  • If you're small and petite, then choose a smaller pearl necklace and earring set that is 6-7.5mm in diameter.
  • If you have an average or moderate build, choose a pearl diameter 7.5-8.5mm in diameter.
  • If you have a larger frame or are a plus size bride, choose pearls larger in diameter to balance your look.
  • However, if you're still not sure, pearl bridal jewelry with a diameter of 7-7.5mm is the most popular size and would look good on any bride.

Choose your pearl bridal necklace, based on your wedding dress neckline.
  • A Dog Collar consists of several layers of strands of pearls stacked on the neck. This style looks best with strapless dresses.
  • A Choker pearl necklace lays across the base of the neck. This style also looks best with strapless dresses, sleeveless dresses or dresses with spaghetti straps.
  • A Princess length rests just above the bustline and looks great with a sweetheart, scoop or V neckline.
  • A Matineee length rests just below the bustline and because your necklace shouldn't fall below the neckline of your wedding dress, this length should be worn with wedding dresses with a lower neckline.
  • An Opera length pearl necklace falls around the waistline and while extremely cool and trendy, is rarely worn with a wedding dress.
